Hi Friends! My name is Alissa and welcome to my blog! I was born and raised on Oahu, Hawaii and in 2018, I moved to San Francisco, California. I had just graduated college and decided that I needed a new adventure!

Within a few years of living here, I would CRAVE food from back home (Hawaii) but could not find exactly what I wanted here. Yes, there are so many Hawaiian fusion/Asian food spots in the bay but none of them really stood out to me. Thats when I started researching recipes from Hawaii and decided to put my own twist on it. Finally my cravings were satisfied.

I decided to just find recipes I like in cookbooks, magazines, and Pinterest and basically remake them and post them on instagram. There were lots of trial and error in this and me trying to “save” recipes that wouldn’t work out so I didn’t waste food (Living on a SF budget out here and groceries are expensive nowadays). But all in all this taught me a lot on how to incorporate different spices and seasonings into dishes and what pairs together.

After this phase, I got really really into making local food I used to eat back home especially poke. So growing up, I would eat raw fish, mostly ahi, all the time! In Hawaii its so fresh, tasty, and literally melts in your mouth. After no luck of finding authentic poke bowls here I decided that I will make my own and sell it out of my house. I ended up making a huge menu that people would just DM or text me and I would deliver it to them. My boyfriend, Warren, joined in and we started selling his chicken wings (which are AMAZING by the way but thats for a different time). This maybe lasted a year but then became difficult to manage with our own work schedules and life so that ended.

Clearly sharing food and my culture must be a passion of mine by the way I stuck to it for over 3 years. I think it just took me that long to figure out what to do with my skills. I love creating content, photography, cooking, drinking, and eating. Put that all together and here we are with my blog! Instead of selling my food, I’m sharing recipes that I’ve grown up with and hopefully inspiring others to do the same. I am all about different cultures, trying new foods, and getting to learn about different experiences. I hope with this blog, you get to learn a little about me, my experiences, and feel encouraged to share your own!
